New! Daytime BZB Meeting

It has been proposed that we start a daytime meeting for the guild. This would not take the place of the evening meeting, but would be in addition to the night group. All members of the guild and guests would be welcome to come to either or both meetings?

When? The same day as the evening meeting, third Thursday of the month, from 12:30 to 3:00 PM.

Why? This would benefit  members that are unable to come to night meetings, & stay-at-home moms can come to the meeting & meet their children as they get out of school. Many of our members have expressed the need for a day group, as driving at night is difficult. We must remember that our guild is 26 years old & the younger members that started the group are now in their 50s & 60s. Some may be working now, but in a few years would welcome a day group.

There would be occasional joint meetings, i.e., Christmas Party and/or when outside speakers come & of course, the Birthday Party.

I am asking for a one year trial starting in September, 2008. The group would develop as the year progresses. This would be a simple get-together as a general meeting, and encouraging members to bring their hand-sewing and the sharing of new and long-standing friendships.

If you would like to help me start this group or if you have any ideas that you would like to share with me.

Thank you, Becky Marshall

Wanted:  Your Best Recipes

Hello, my fellow Bees! At our most recent meeting (the Christmas Party potluck), it occurred to us that we’ve got some fabulous recipes to share. It was proposed that we put together a Busy Bees Cookbook, which I (in a moment of insanity) volunteered to take charge of. Regina Girard has generously volunteered to help me out... with her artistic talents we are sure to put together a terrific book!

We would like to make this a fundraiser and get this thing published in time to sell at the Quilt Show AND, we get a “deal” if we place our order in Feb., so I have to get my busy fingers ‘a typing!

So, SEND ME YOUR RECIPES! I have set up a special email address to send them to: bbrecipes@yahoo.com. You can also hand them to me at the January meeting or send them snail mail (see BB Handbook for my address). Feel free to call me if you have any questions!

Deb Lund-Tlumak reported on the raffle quilt.  She showed one of the appliquéd blocks that will go around the quilt. Tickets for the raffle will be ready soon for selling. It is hoped the guild will be able to exceed last year’s sales  .She thanked all who have helped sew with the quilt.  Terry announced the quilt shop in Arlington, The Workbasket, offered to let us hang the quilt and sell tickets during the Shop Hop in June.

Rosie Tatel asked for help in transporting auction items that were brought to the meeting.  Several volunteered.

Terry mentioned Ann McMichael was studying the point system.  Many have enough to have a group quilt done. Terry also excess points can be auctioned or traded.  For the benefit of new members, Terry explained the process of having a group quilt done.

Geri Stokes reported a Busy Bee member won the quilt made and raffled by the Snohomish County Treasurer’s Office to benefit the Volunteers of America.

"Charm" scraps needed!

A new look for the Demonstrations - "Charm Quilt"

A Hands on, Interactive learning experience The name of the show is—Country charm, so a Charm quilt is the natural expression to pursue.

What is a Charm Quilt?

Traditionally, a charm quilt is the ultimate scrap quilt. It doesn’t use the same fabric over and over. I went on-line looking for examples of Charm quilts and an easy pattern to use to make the charm quilt. According to what I read on the internet, a charm quilt generally will encompass a finite period of time, usually around 10 years of fabrics.

The proposal is this: Have the demonstration be a hands on experience for the viewers. Create a quilt top and have the viewers who participated in the design have the option to purchase a ticket that would give them a chance to win the finished quilt.  Note: We don’t believe that this would significantly reduce the number of raffle tickets that would be sold for the Guild Raffle Quilt. The Board has discussed this proposal and agree.

The experience would include a guild member telling/showing the person how to cut the fabric and construct the square. The pattern is very simple and only had one 4 patch that has a point to match.

What we need from members: 9” x 2 1/2” strips of 4 different fabrics. If you choose light, medium and dark values that would give the best mix of colors in the quilt. The fabrics can be anything you want to use, just please don’t duplicate your strips.

The quilt calls for 99 squares for one side and I would like to have the top and back all squares...that way we don’t need to come up with back material.

Doing the math on this—we need 198 sets of 4 strips, or 792 strips 9” x 2 1/2” to complete this project. As the saying goes—all strips gratefully accepted.  Please turn in your strips to Sandi Brehm, the Chairman for this demonstration table.

If you have any questions, please call or e-mail Sandi at: sandibrehm@hotmail.com
